SPECIAL APPEAL: TIBETAN DELEK HOSPITAL & TB PROJECT

Take a moment to hear the story of just one patient.  A 70-year old Buddhist nun weighing 90 lbs., came into Tibetan Delek Hospital with TB.  She had swollen hands and feet that had nothing to do with her infection—but were caused by low protein, a problem shared by half of the Tibetan population.

Protein malnutrition and lack of vitamins and minerals robs a body of its ability to fight  infections and heal. For 95 cents a day—less than what it costs for a bottle of water or a latte—you can give Ani Pema the protein, vitamins and minerals that she urgently needs to heal.

Delek runs on charitable donations. It purchases low protein foods like white rice, white bread and noodles because they are cheaper. We can more than double the protein content by adding an egg, a glass of milk and 2 cups of lentils. If we also add a piece of fruit and a two carrots,  we’ll unleash the power of nature’s vitamins and minerals

Won’t you help?

What you give today will help our Tibetan friends tomorrow.

Please help by selecting one of the payment options on the left to make your tax-deductible donation in support of this special appeal.

Critical Needs:

Delek Hospital is kindly accepting your donations to purchase the following basic necessities for its daily use. Your donations will make a tremendous difference in the quality of care that the hospital and its staff can provide to the refugees and members of the local community.

Lab Processor: The present automatic chemistry machine must be replaced. Breakdowns occur regularly. When this happens no chemistries can be performed for days at a time as the  repair engineer lives hundreds of miles away.

Ambulance: The working ambulance in Dharamsala is in very poor condition. Critically ill patients needing transport to the closest tertiary care facility 200 miles away have their care and safely compromised.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Equipment: The ability to evaluate chest pain with an EKG and monitor shortness of breath by measuring oxygen in the blood are essential for emergency diagnoses.

Laptop Computers: Today physicians need access to electronic medical texts and should have the able to digital photos of patients to specialists who may aid in the diagnosis of  complex cases
