HEALTH CARE & SANITATION PROGRAMS

Tibetan refugees are vulnerable to a wide range of serious illnesses and disease due to inadequate sanitation and health care in the refugee settlements. The CTA Department of Health’s network of 44 health clinics, nine primary-care centers and seven hospitals provides medical care but its resources are gravely lacking.

The Tibet Fund, with the help of the U.S. Department of State, supports urgently needed programs such as TB and HIV/AIDS Control and Prevention, Maternal and Child Health and Immunization, hospitalizations, essential medicines, public health education, health workers’ training, nutritional food programs in Tibetan schools and safe drinking water and sanitation projects.

Please help by selecting one of the payment options on the left to make your tax-deductible donation in support of this program.

In most cases, one hundred percent (100%) of the funds you send to The Tibet Fund for support goes directly to the earmarked program. To help us continue this work, during checkout please select the "continue shopping" option to make a General Donation at whatever level you wish. Thank You!

TUBERCULOSIS PREVENTION & CONTROL

Due to close living conditions in the settlements, monasteries and schools, TB is the leading cause of grave illness and death among Tibetan refugees.  With U.S. Department of State and private donor support, the Department of Health provides regular TB screening in 25 refugee schools and clinics, health education to prevent infection, and TB treatment, special diets and financial assistance for TB patients. The Tibetan Delek Hospital in Dharamsala has formed a partnership with Johns Hopkins University to develop a pilot TB control and prevention program. The Tibet Fund is assisting Friends of Delek Hospital with a targeted fundraising campaign for this project and to upgrade Delek Hospital's outmoded medical equipment. NGOENGA SCHOOL OF
DISABLED TIBETAN CHILDREN

The Ngoenga School, the first and only school of its kind, was built specifically for disabled Tibetan children at the urging of and with initial funding from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The children receive regular classroom education, vocational training and health and physical therapy in an atmosphere designed to help them develop to their fullest capacity.

You can sponsor a child by donating $30 per month or $360 per year. You will receive a case history and photograph of the child and, if you wish, regular correspondence from the child you support as well as progress reports from the school. Funds are urgently needed for operating costs of the school. You may make a general donation in any amount for the general benefit of the school or other Tibetan children. To support this and other projects for children, please go to our Sponsorship Program page.

MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH

With support from the U.S. Department of State and private donors, Tibetan women are provided with reproductive health services, and prenatal and postnatal care. Children are provided with an array of vaccinations, immunoglobulin and anti-polio drops. In 2008, a Nutritional Food Project was established in nine refugee schools, benefiting approximately 1,300 students. Maternal health workshops are also conducted in the settlements throughout the year.

DRINKING WATER & SANITATION

Funds are provided to bring safe drinking water and sanitation facilities to some of the most neglected and affected settlements, including Mainpat, Ladakh Nyoma Camp, Orissa Camp No.3 and Yougyaling settlement. Our goal is to make safe drinking water available in all 53 Tibetan settlements in India, Nepal and Bhutan. Rainwater-harvesting projects are underway in settlements in areas of south India that regularly experience drought conditions.
