Current Needs
When Tibetan communities suffer natural disasters or unforeseen hardships, it is very difficult for them recover without outside help. At such times we receive urgent appeals for assistance, since most of the refugees have little or nothing on which to fall back. Please visit our Tibetan Delek Hospital and The Panchen Lama - Tashi Lhunpo Project pages for descriptions of two current urgent needs, in addition to the following.

Assistance for Tibetan Elders in Katmandu
Tibetans have lived as refugees for many years, and the number of aged Tibetans is increasing. Many aged Tibetans are poor and have no families to care for them. The need for housing where elders' basic needs are met is becoming urgent. With funding from the Flora Family Foundation, the Tibet Fund has helped build a home for fifty older Tibetans in Kathmandu, Nepal. His Holiness the Dalai Lama provided the seed money to purchase the land for this building.

We are now seeking to raise funds to help meet the daily expenses of the seniors as well as for the maintenance of the home and salary for the staff. If you would like to help the Tsering Elder Home, please make a general donation for the upkeep of the home, or if you prefer, you may sponsor an elder at the rate of $300 per elder per year (or by the month/etc.). To help, please print out the Donation Form and send it with your donation to The Tibet Fund.

Support for The Noenga School of Disabled Tibetan Children
The Noenga School is the first and only school of its kind built specifically for Tibetan disabled children at the urging and initial funding from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Disabled children receive regular classroom education, vocational training and health and physical therapy in an atmosphere designed to help them develop to their fullest capacity. The Department of Health, which bears responsibility for this school, is seeking support for the operation and maintenance of the Neonga School. You can sponsor a child by donating $30/month, or $360/year. You will receive a case history and photograph of the child and, if you wish, regular correspondence from the child you will be supporting as well as progress reports from the school. If you prefer, you may make a general donation in any amount for the general benefit of the school or other Tibetan children. To support this and other projects for children, please go to our Sponsorship Program page.
